About
Taufiq Qureshi, a renowned Indian classical musician and composer, is the first artist to develop a unique rhythmic language to adapt the tabla syllables on the Djembe, an African drum.
He is the son of renowned tabla player Ustad Alla Rakha and the brother of tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain.
Taufiq started Surya- the New Sun, an Indian classical fusion band that amalgamates the flavours of ethnic and world music. He also started Mumbai Stamp, an innovative band that uses trash material to create music.
He has been featured as a performing artist on the 2009 Grammy award-winning album Global Drum Project, Remember Shakti, Masters of Percussion and Summit.
Taufiq has lent his expertise for background scores of films like Dil Chahta Hai, Devdas, Dhoom 2, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Housefull, and Jab We Met among many others.
He has released a number of albums throughout his journey namely Rhydhun, Taalisma, PercJam, Colors of Rajasthan and Bombay Fever, among others.
Taufiq is fluent in Marathi as well and has been a judge on the Marathi version of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee Marathi.

- Taufiq received Gold at the Cannes Film Festival for ‘Best Music’ for the Indian Railways jingle in 2010.
- He also received Gold at the London International Awards for ‘Original Music’ for the Nike jingle Parallel Journey in 2013.
